Joyce Anne Anderson unexpectedly passed away and greeted her Heavenly Father on November 1, 2016. She had the biggest, most generous heart in the world, always willing to assist anyone who needed help, but ultimately it was her heart that gave way and passed her on to the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ.
Joyce was born on November 30, 1947, in Toledo, OH, to her parents Ellis and Helen Tolly (both deceased). She spent her early childhood in Temperance, MI. In 1955 when she was in elementary school, her family moved to Richmond, MI, when her father began his pastoral ministry. In high school, the family moved to beautiful Northern Michigan when her father took on a Church in Lincoln, MI. It was at the Lincoln Baptist Church where she met her future husband of 48 years -- Harvey Anderson.
During the summer of 1965, she began dating Harvey, who was home on military leave. After high school Joyce studied social work at Spring Arbor College. Joyce and he spent the next year and a half writing back and forth while he served in the Army and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. After college, she moved back to her childhood hometown of Temperance and lived with her brother, David Tolly (deceased), and sister-in-law, Carol Tolly. She put her editing skills to work and accepted her first job at the Bedford Courier Newspaper. While up north, during the summer of 1967, Harvey surprised Joyce with an engagement ring.
After getting married to Harvey on February 24, 1968, they moved into their first home in Mason, MI, and began their life together. Joyce continued in journalism, assisting with proofreading and type setting at the Ingham County News. She then became a stay-at-home mom and full-time homemaker with the birth and rearing of their four children. When the children were older, she was an Avon sales consultant, an assistant for Mason Public Schools Adult Education Program, and a daycare provider. The latter career spanned over 35 years and influenced numerous children. When she became a grandmother,
Joyce spent even more time investing in and “loving on” her many grandchildren.
In addition to her devotion to family, Joyce was always an active member of the church she was attending, most recently Eden United Brethren Church in Mason, MI. She made a regular practice of putting others first and serving with whatever needs they might have. Joyce lived up to her name and was full of joy. Her generous heart, infectious laugh and smile were always evident and she made everyone feel at home and deeply loved.
Joyce leaves behind her husband Harvey Anderson, four children -- Philip (Ruth) Anderson, Rachel (Tim) Wheaton, Mark (April) Anderson and Jayne (Robert) Weck -- and 20 grandchildren to cherish her memory. Hannah and Abigail Anderson, Jared, Levi, Adam and Chloe Wheaton, Brayden, Meilynn, Jayson, Kaitlyn, Greyson, Kristyn, Ryan, Addisyn, and Emilyn Anderson, Eliana and Elizabeth Trierweiler, Abraham, Garrett and Elyse Weck in addition to many extended family members to cherish her memory.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 11, and on Saturday, November 12, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Memorial services for Joyce will be on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Eden United Brethren Church, 1938 Eden Road, Mason, MI. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Eden Church Benevolence Fund.
