Doris was born May 11, 1928, in Gravel Switch, Kentucky, the first of five children, to Luther and Bessie (Minor) Chelf. She passed away Memorial Day, May 25, 2015, at McLaren Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. Doris moved to Michigan with her parents at an early age where she graduated from Dansville High School with the class of 1947. She spent most of her adult life in the financial world, ending up as a very loyal and proud employee and retiree of the MSU Federal Credit Union. Although Doris never married, her "children" were her many nephews and nieces on whom she showered much love and generosity. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Paul (Deanna) Chelf, and Calvin (Karlene) Chelf. She is survived by a sister, Geneva (Dick) Carter, a brother, Wayne (Dorothy) Chelf, sisters-in-law, Deanna Chelf, Karlene Chelf, and many nephews and nieces. As per her request, cremation has taken place with her remains interred at Fairview Cemetery in Dansville, Michigan. A memorial service will be held at Vantown Community Church at 3504 E. Howell Road, Webberville, Michigan on August 1, 2015 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Terry Turner officiating. A luncheon will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vantown Community Church or the Charity of one's choice.
