Betty Bergin Guerriero passed away peacefully on December 21, 2018. Born June 12, 1920, in Ypsilanti to Maud and William Bergin, she grew up in Ypsilanti, Marquette, and Mason, Michigan. Betty graduated from Mason High School and Lansing Business University, then attended and worked at Michigan State University until she entered the Women's Army Corps. in 1942.
Betty married Frank Guerriero, whom she had met at MSU, in 1942 at Fort Gordon, GA, while both were in the army. They returned to Mason to live in 1946 where Frank opened the Mason Insurance Agency. Betty's pride and joy was her family. Frank and Betty raised seven children; Judie (San Francisco), Jane (Bob), James (Amy, Jackson), Tim (Debra, Northville), Mary (Lyle, Holt), Kathy (Ashburn, VA), and Ann (Mark, Ashburn, VA). They have fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, William; husband, Frank; daughters, Mary Elizabeth and Jane; and grandson, Brian.
Betty was an excellent bridge player and belonged to several bridge clubs in Mason, including the Mason Bridge Club. She and Frank were among the founding members of St. James Catholic Church in Mason. Betty had a tremendous capacity to love and care for her family and others. She volunteered for many years in many places, including at St. James Church, Mason General Hospital, Sparrow Hospital and Mason Hospice. She worked for a time at the Ingham Intermediate School District and at Prime Time Travel, which she and Frank owned for a short period.
A memorial celebration of Betty's life will be held January 26, 2019 at noon at El Dorado golf course in Mason. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ALS of Michigan or a Hospice of your choice. The family is being served by the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Mason Chapel.
