Ann Marie Bodary (nee Martineau), age 88, died in hospice care on Sunday, June 26, 2022.
Ann is survived by her son, Jeff (Marlene) of Beverly Hills, Michigan; her daughter Charlene, of Mason, Michigan; and daughter-in-law Kathryn of Dexter, Michigan. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles, of Mason, her son, Robert of Ann Arbor; her father, Leonard Martineau and her mother, Ellen, of Mason, Michigan.
Ann was born on July 22, 1933 in Manistee Michigan. After a short time living in the Saginaw area, she and her parents moved to Mason in 1941. During her childhood, Ann was an active 4H participant throughout her school years and enjoyed telling stories about her ribbon-winning pet pig. During her high school years she attended the organization’s National Conference in Chicago as a representative from Michigan. Ann attended Holt High School, was part of the “Ram Pages” yearbook staff in her senior year, and graduated in 1951. She attended Michigan State University, joined the Associated Women Students organization and became President of their Judiciary Board, which adjudicated disciplinary cases in the Women’s Dorms on campus. She also joined the Delta Zeta Sorority and the Newman Club for Catholic students. She graduated in 1955 with a degree from the School of Social Sciences.
Ann married Charles (Chuck) Emerson Bodary in September, 1955. Two boys, Jeffrey and Robert were born in the next few years. In 1961, she followed her mother Ellen into the teaching profession. After a year teaching 6th grade, she moved into Special Education and helped many youngsters with learning challenges. In 1967, Ann and Chuck had a third child, daughter Charlene. At that point, with three children, Ann became a stay-at-home mom for a time. Five years later, Ann re-entered teaching as an elementary educator at Wilcox Elementary in Holt, Michigan and at Hope Middle School, where she taught Social Studies and English until her retirement in 1993.
Ann was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her six grandchildren, Nicholas, Justin, Adam, Cooper, Ryan and William all have fond memories of spending time with her at Christmas, and on the occasional trip to Disney World. She enjoyed a good book and the theater, often traveling to Stratford, Ontario for the Shakespeare festival and attending events at both the Boarshead Theater and Wharton Center on the MSU campus. Ann was also an avid bridge player and in her later years, she spent many enjoyable hours watching tennis and MSU sports.
Services for Ann are scheduled for Thursday, July 14th at the Catholic Community of Sts. James, Cornelius & Cyprian at 1010 S. Lansing St in Mason. Viewing begins at 10 am, with Mass at 11 am. A luncheon will follow at Noon. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ann’s life.
