Richard A Schaeffer

Memorial services will be held December 4, 2015, in Marysville, Wash. for Richard A. Schaeffer, long-time area resident, who passed away November 24, 2015, at his Manson, Wash. home. He was 94. Richard was born in Lang Lake, S.D. on February 4, 1921, one of 15 children. After the Schaeffer family moved to the Bakersfield area in California, Richard joined the Merchant Marines in 1947. A year later, he married Eleanor Horn of Everett, Wash. They moved to Marysville in 1956 where, years later, Eleanor died of a long illness. In 1998, he married Marguerite Howell., at which time he gained a loving extended family of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren The couple moved to Manson where they have resided until now. Richard was employed by the telephone company for 28 years, retiring from GTE in 1983. A gentle soul with a gift of humor, Richard is remembered by his fellow workers and friends as a "gentle soul with an amazing gift of humor." He is survived by his wife, Marguerite; a sister, a loving extended family, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2015, at the Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, 804 State St., Marysville, WA.
