Richard also went by his middle name Darren, or "Chubbs" in reference to his father's nickname "Chubby".
Darren departed this life on June 20th, 2022. He is proceeded in death by his grandparents Thelma Townsand and Hilman Tobey, father Richard Powell, eldest brother Floyd Leon Bitsie and sister Dareth (Beltran) Rodriguez. Darren was of Paiute and Seminole Creek Indian descent.
Darren grew up in the Bay Area but later moved to Washington approximately in 1994 to live near his aunts and uncles Lita Mower, Karen Sheldon, Byron Sheldon and William Sheldon.
Richard was a happy child who was always smiling and telling jokes.
In Darren's school years, he attended Hintil Kuu-Ca, a native pre-school where his mom worked. Arts Magnet Elementary School, Bret Hart Jr. High and Skyline high school in Oakland, he also attended Broken Arrow high school in Oklahoma, playing varsity baseball.
Darren's hobbies included going to the local casino's, reading comic books and novels, listening to various genres of music, writing poems and short stories, playing guitar, drawing and watching his favorite movies over and over. Darren loved spending time with his mom Marlene, Briana, Angie, Steve and Elaina, whether it was going see baseball games or playing cards, learning new skills, for example, becoming an expert at home dialysis, playing baseball and skateboarding in his youth. He played goalie for the Hintil soccer team. His favorite sports teams were the Oakland Raiders and Oakland A's.
Darren is survived by his mother Marlene Beltran, his soulmate Brianna Cordova of 11 years, brother Steve Beltran III, his sisters Susawn Powell , Lynn Powell, his nieces Angelina Rodriguez, Helena Rodriguez and great niece Elaina Luquin, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Darren will be sadly missed by those who loved him and by those he loved. Richard leaves us all with fun filled memories of jokes and
laughter and most of all, his joyful smile.
We wish Darren well on his journey to the spirit world.
