Gala Winona Zuehlke

Gala Winona Zuehlke died tragically at her home in Edmonds, WA, on November 30, 2018. She was born July 5, 2001, in Bellingham, WA, to Amanda Zuehlke and Jeremy Clark. Her earliest years were spent in Chicago, IL, and Denver, CO. At age 4, she and her mother moved back to the Bellingham area. Gala loved her memories of living in Glen Haven and rural Acme. She had many friends in the Mount Baker School District; and good memories of playing clarinet in the Mount Baker band and of playing basketball. Three years ago, she moved to Edmonds with her father and made many new friends. But she told everyone that she remained “a Chicago girl at heart.”

Gala was in her senior year as an e-Learning student at Edmonds-Woodway High school.

Gala was a creative and caring person. She loved her cats and dogs, fish and turtle. She loved horses and horseback riding. She organized a project to raise donations to purchase supplies for the Humane Society of Skagit County. She loved creative arts such as dancing, music, painting, photography, her school drama club, making jewelry with her aunt, working with clay, arranging flowers, and paper art. She enjoyed piano lessons with her grandfather and camping with her friends and family.

For many years she thought she would like to become a veterinarian. In later years she found she enjoyed working with children and decided to pursue becoming an elementary school teacher. She planned to live with her grandparents and attend Skagit Valley College next fall.

Gala is survived by her mother, Amanda Intveld (Joshua); father, Jeremy Clark (Kiara Held); sisters Evey and Zyrie; brother Asher; grandparents George Zuehlke, Laureen and Terrill Hayes, and Stephen Intveld; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandmothers Susan Zuehlke and Janet Intveld.

The family suggests that memorial donations might be made to the Humane Society of Skagit County.

A candlelight vigil will be held at 7:30pm, Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Rome Community Bible Church in Bellingham. A memorial will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 5:00pm at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home in Marysville.
