William Dudley Smith

William Dudley Smith, 90, of Martinsville passed away peacefully at his residence on December 15, 2016 with his family by his side. He was born in Martinsville on March 27, 1926 to John Wesley Smith and Annie Beck Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother John Wesley Smith Jr. He is survived by his wife Gloria Chaney Smith; sons, Stephen Reed Smith and his wife Susan, Eric Stewart Smith and his wife Susan, and Giles Chaney Smith; grandchildren, Sarah Anne Smith, Emily Elizabeth Smith, Chaney Christian Pope and her husband Ryan, Bucky Stewart Smith; great grandchild Reagan Pope.

Mr. Smith was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Italy. He was a 1944 graduate of Martinsville High School and a graduate of Duke University Business School. He was self-employed at GCS Electronics & Communications as well as Smith Wholesale, Inc.

The visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at McKee Stone Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at a later time in Oakwood Cemetery and will be officiated by Pastor Buck Wardle.
