Vera Lee McGuire Haley, 90, of Axton, Virginia passed away Saturday, September 28, 2024. She was born in Axton, June 22, 1934 to Roy Lee McGuire and Virginia Jane Hairfield McGuire.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Wilbert Randolph Haley; sisters, Doris M. Herndon, Nancy M. Robertson and Barbara M. Harris.
She is survived by her daughter, Melody H. Wilson and husband, Melvin of Bassett; granddaughters, Brandi Gillespie (Henry) of Axton and Amber St. John (Cody) of Rustburg, great -grandson, Hudson St. John; great-granddaughter, Everly St. John; brother, James McGuire, brother-in-law, Dudley Herndon and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Vera and her husband were longtime members and faithful supporters of Mount Vernon Baptist Church of Axton where Vera was a member for 80 years and served as the Financial Secretary for 60 years. She also served as WMU Director and Sunday School Director for many years.
Vera worked for The Pannill Knitting Company for thirty plus years and Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County as the Nursing Secretary.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, Oct. 2rd, at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3rd at 11:00 AM at Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Axton with burial in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Bruce Mize, Johnny Herndon, Al Herndon, Al Herndon, Jr., Bobby Dean Herndon and Donnie Haley, Honorary Pallbearers, Jimmy McGuire and Wayne Harris.
