In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold C. Durham, Sr.; Siblings, Virginia Lee Rea, Eugene Alonzo Rea, Evelynn Rea, Johnny Green Rea, Georgia Rea Ellett, Thomas Deal Rea, Ishmeal Rea, Ruth Rea Franklin and David Franklin Rea, and grandson, H.C. Durham, III.
She is survived by her sister, Susan “Dora” Rea; Daughter, Elizabeth Adams (Bobby); Sons, Edwin Ray Durham (Sandra), Harold C. Durham, Jr. (Barbara) and Toney Lee Durham (Wendy); Grandchildren; Wendy Durham, Nikki Chaney, Ginny Craig, Kristin Amos, Dammon Gray, Katie Hundley, Chris Gray, Casey Halstead , Jessica Baboun, Gage Adams, Victoria Kendrick; Great grandchildren, Sheridan Chaney, Griffin Craig, Nickel Baboun, Miles Gray, Conner Amos, Aiden Gray, Jefferson Craig, William Hundley, Maddie Baboun, Reagan Kendrick, Ellie Adams, Daphne Hundley ,Wesley Kendrick and Weston Adams;
many beloved nieces and nephews.
Libby lived a life of helping others and modeled the Christian values of her strong faith. She was very dedicated to her church and taught Sunday School for 45 years. She was a wonderful, caring and giving person who cherished her family and friends.
Early in life, she was awarded a college scholarship that she was unable to accept because of family obligations. She fulfilled her desire for a college education when she received her Bachelor’s Degree with a 4.0 GPA at age 65.
She retired from the U.S. Postal Service after a long career of working at the Ridgeway Branch. She served as the director and administrator of CONTACT for many years, as well as served as the area captain for TOPS. She also served on the National Board of Directors for both agencies. She also worked as an intake officer for the Martinsville Henry County Department of Social Services.
She was a very dedicated and proud military spouse who supported her husband while they were stationed in numerous states in the US, as well as, foreign countries.
The family is very appreciative of the excellent care and compassion provided to Mrs. Durham by the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and by her special caregivers; Janet Ayers, Penni Mattox, Ericka Mattox, Natalie Riggs, Hannah and Leslie.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, April 1, 2024 at McKee-Stone Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at McKee-Stone and will be officiated by Chris Gray and Terry Robertson.
Pallbearers will be Bill Franklin, Jr., Lester Franklin, Danny Rea, David Rea, Tyler Kendrick, Charlie Halstead. Honorary Pallbearer will be Dammon Gray.
