Andrew Haley Wright

Andrew Haley Wright, 95, of Martinsville, a man who dearly loved God, his family, country, friends and who never met a stranger, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2021. He was born on February 17, 1926 in Henry County to Charlie Martin Wright and Nannie Martin Wright. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Donavant Wright; son, Kent Wright; sisters, Mary Wright Payne and Maude Wright Holley; brothers, Leonard, George, Clarence, Jesse, Cooper, and infant brother, Martin Wright. He is survived by his sons, Sammy Glenn Wright (Robin) and Mark Andrew Wright (Wenona); six grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. Mr. Wright retired as a rural letter carrier for 32 years. He was a past president of the Dyers Store Ruritan Club and past state president of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association. Mr. Wright also greatly enjoyed the 25 years he worked for Collins and McKee-Stone Funeral Home where he was able to continue seeing and helping so many of his friends. A joint funeral service for Mr. Wright and his son, Kent Ellis Wright, who passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021, both of whom where members of Chatham Heights Baptist Church, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Chatham Heights Baptist Church. Reverend Dr. Michael Hatfield and Reverend Lewis Harris will officiate. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chatham Heights Baptist Church, 1235 Old Chatham Road, Martinsville, VA 24112 or to the Martinsville & Henry County Veterans Honor Guard, P.O.
