Robert E Taylor

He was born on April 25th 1928 in Martinsburg, and was the son of the late Charles Harvey and Pearl Elizabeth Taylor.

He served his country in the United States Army from 1949-1952. He completed his basic training at Fort Pickett Army Base in Blackstone, VA and was transferred to Fort Sam Houston Army Post in San Antonio, TX for medical training. He worked in the Army Medical Dept. at Walter Reid Hospital in Washington, DC and then in the Valley Forge Military Hospital in Phoenixville, PA. He was honorably discharged in 1952 and returned to Martinsburg where he began working in the lab at the Newton D. Baker Hospital now known as the VA Medical Center.

Bob was a retired Nationwide Insurance Agent, serving Nationwide for over 25 years. He had many loyal customers during his career.

He was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist church for 60 years. He was a charter member of the Pikeside Ruritan Club, a member of the Robert White Lodge #67, and the American Legion Post 14. He was also a 55-year member of the Masonic Lodge, and the Tall Cedars Lodge of Lebanon with the honor of serving as a past Grand Tall Cedar. Bob proudly served as a dedicated member of the Berkeley County Democratic Executive Committee for more than 50 years before retiring at the age of 85. His love of politics and the Democratic Party lead him to support and cherish many local and state political figures.

In retirement he enjoyed volunteering and served over 500 hours at City Hospital, now known as Berkeley Medical Center. He enjoyed playing and watching golf and was the world’s greatest football fan. He loved his WVU Mountaineers. He enjoyed a good game of cards and often made up his own rules to win. He enjoyed hunting, traveling, and going to Florida for the winter. He was a proud American and a true Democrat. The American Flag was always seen displayed with honor on his front porch.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years Jean B. Taylor, daughter Roberta Lynn Jacobs and husband Gene and son David Eugene Taylor; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Fincham and husband Chris, Eric Taylor, Ashley Davis, and Jeremy Taylor and wife Kim; 7 great grandchildren, Chassidy, Donivan, Bella, Emma, Janelle, Liam and Cash; his youngest sister Marie Sowers; brother-in- laws Paul Sowers and Robert Bradley and sister- in-laws Paula Bradley and Helen Redick; special niece Connie Frick, and many other cherished nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his youngest son Robert Scott Taylor, fondly known as little Bobby; five brothers Hubert, Russel, Charles, Douglas, and John; and three sisters Mary Feeney, Edith Taylor, and Naomi Perry.

The family would like to sincerely thank everyone who cared for Bob at the VA Medical Center especially Dr. Habte and Mrs. Tania Thorton; the staff on the 5th floor and in the Tranquility House for their support, care, patience, kindness and concern over him.
