David Lee Zombro, 59, of Martinsburg, WV passed peacefully at home on September 12, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Born April 06, 1964 in Martinsburg, WV, he was the youngest son of the late Edgar Eugene and Elsie Lorraine Zombro.
David leaves behind his wife, Amy Lynne Zombro, two children, Jessica Brown (Andrew), of Stephens City, VA and Joshua Zombro of Reston, VA as well as two grandchildren Juliet Brown and Jayden Zombro. He is also survived by his siblings Linda Spurgeon, Debbie MacDonald, Sandi Braithwaite (Terry), Eddie Zombro (Tina) and several nieces and nephews.
David was a proud lifetime resident of Martinsburg, graduating from Martinsburg High School in 1983. Following in the footsteps of his father and brother, David enlisted in the United States Army in 1984 and valiantly served his country for 6 years in the infantry and then as a drill sergeant. David then began a career in the bread business eventually becoming an owner/operator for Flowers Baking.
David’s enthusiasm for life extended beyond his career into his personal life. One of his proudest accomplishments was being a part of the 1983 WV High School Baseball State Championship team, the first time in Martinsburg High School history.
Among his other passions was Little League Baseball. David volunteered as a coach for many years alongside his brother. He dedicated a large portion of his free time to giving back to the Berkeley County community. As an athlete, David loved sports. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Martinsburg Bulldogs, New York Yankees, WVU Mountaineers and his personal Fantasy teams. He was an avid bowler, softball player and golfer. After David retired in 2021 he enjoyed spending as much time as possible on the greens with his friends.
David was a husband, father, pap, brother, uncle, friend and coach to many.
In 2022 David was diagnosed with a glioblastoma. Through the face of adversity he remained courageous. Always letting his sense of humor shine through. David will be remembered for his unfailing kindness, generosity to his family, friends and community. David’s spirited nature, boisterous laugh and his appreciativeness for life were valued by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Special thanks to his support team of family, friends, neighbors, Pikeside Church and Hospice of the Panhandle during and through his year long battle.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Rosedale Funeral Home with full military honors on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. Visitation is 9:30am followed by 11:00am service. Internment will immediately follow in Rosedale Cemetery.
