Michael J. Dewey, 47 of Martinez, Georgia, left on his final ride December 10, 2014, after a long struggle with Colon Cancer. As Michael left, he expressed his deepest love and gratitude to those closest to him. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Dewey, and both sets of grandparents. Michael is survived by his mother, Ikuyo Dewey; brother, Richard Dewey of Martinez; cousins, Bettye Jo (Jerry) Burge of Martinez GA, Edward Cummings of Greenville, SC and Shawndra Jenkins of Durham, NC. Michael was married to his loving friend, Denise. They shared many wonderful memories in the four short years they were married. Michael had three phenomenal children, Crystal Groleau, Kenneth Dewey and Rebecca Dewey, all of Martinez; two stepsons, Jason Redman of Sally, SC and Joshua Redman of Lincolnton, GA; and his beloved furever friend, Scooter.Michael had a passion for helping others constantly. Professionally, Michael worked with Plantation Shutters by Tim Barlow for many years. Michael had many wonderful memories, and spent countless days with Tim and Chris Barlow and loved them dearly. Michael was the owner of Dewey Do It All Installations and worked for the majority of the designers and decorators in the Aiken/Augusta area. The professional people in Michael's life were his life's work, and even as sick as he was, he made what time he could for a last minute installation, to hang some drapes on short notice, or to fix something that someone else had messed up. Michael took great pride in his work and was an absolute magician with a pen knife, a tape measure and a power drill. There was nothing Michael couldn't fix or put where it needed to go if the customer needed it that way. Michael was very proud of his Father's service to our Country during his enlistment in the Navy. Although Michael never served a day in his life, he had a deep abiding love and respect for those who did. Michael was very proud to become a member of The Sons of the American Legion at Squadron #192. Michael served as the State Detachment Commander of the Sons of the American Legion for the years 2010-2011. Michael loved to hunt, fish, ride his Gold Wing with friends and to help others by giving of himself. During this last year, Michael finally made time to get to know his children for the people that they were growing up to be. Crystal is studying to be a Nurse, Kenneth finished Youth Challenge Academy and was learning the installation business with Michael, and his precious Baby Girl Rebecca is just becoming a beautiful young lady he always knew she would be. A celebration of Michael's life will be held 2 PM, Friday, December 12, 2014 in the Columbia Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown GA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Michael has asked that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the A.H.E.R.O. (Augusta Homeless Vet Emergency Response Organization) of the CSRA, here in Augusta. Michael wishes to thank Dr. Edward Kruse, Dr. Asha Nayak, for their work and effort to give Michael the quality of this last year. Michael was very appreciative of Kim, Shelly, Angie and Rhonda as they helped with the day to day needs of Michael's last few months. Michael was a man who will leave a large hole in the hearts of many people on this earth. Michael says, See you later, take care, ride safe, and love ya'll.
