Ann G Davis

Ann G. Davis was a compassionate woman who was energized by other people. She had an outgoing personality and was the first one to take lead in various situations. She was trustworthy and traditional in her beliefs and values and instilled them in her family. Ann was accepting of others beliefs and relied on her emotions and gut feelings when making decisions. She often showed empathy to others going through difficult times and avoided conflict to be sensitive to others beliefs and feelings. Ann was a planner and took pride in attention to detail. She was always one step ahead so she would not fall behind in any of her work. She believed in following deadlines and sticking to her daily routines.

Ann was born in Augusta, GA to the late William and Elizabeth Gaddy. In addition to her parents, Ann grew up with two older sisters, Mary and Mildred. Ann was an energetic child who was involved in various extracurricular activities including dancing, Girl Scouts and listening to music. She was the 1951, first co-ed graduating class of Academy of Richmond County. She enjoyed learning and many of her studies, but her passion was in English courses. Being the planner and organizer she was, even after school she remained involved in Alumni activities and was on the committee for all the High School Reunions. After high school, she began working full time at Fort Gordon, but that did not hinder her from achieving a college education. She attended Georgia Military College at night where she continued to excel in English courses.

After high school, Ann worked in Administration as a typist. She was employed for 25 years in civil service with the Crime Lab and Safety department. Ann knew how to have fun and have a good time with family and friends. In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing, traveling and shopping. She also was talented in the arts including sewing and ceramics.

Ann met the love of her life, William Eugene Davis and was married in Augusta, GA at a friend’s home on June 27, 1959. She and her husband shared three wonderful children, Martin Doyle, Donna Dee and Theresa Ann. Later in life came the joy of grandchildren, Chris and Sydney and several grand puppies. Family was Ann’s main priority in life, but she took please in many other activities outside the home. Ann was involved in a Garden Club and alumni activities with ARC. Ann was passionate about politics and was a member of the Republican Party. She knew the value and privilege it was to be able to vote so she volunteered as the Election Poll Manager. Ann was strong in her faith with the Lord and was a member of Martinez Baptist Church. While attending, she served in the church as a nursery worker.

Ann enjoyed traveling in her spare time. She often would travel for work but also pleasure. Some of the places she went was England, Scotland, Wales, Alaska and Boston, MA.

Ann loved her animals and she loved and cherished each one of them. She had her chocolate miniature poodle, Cocoa for 14 years. She also had multiple four-legged companions throughout the years including, Sam, Precious, Roxanne, Cocoa and multiple grand puppies.

Although Ann loved and took passion in her work, she enjoyed retirement as well. She retired from Westinghouse in 1994. After retiring, she enjoyed shopping, lunch gatherings, garden club and traveling.

Ann went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 with a battle of pneumonia. Left to cherish her memories are her children, Donna and Theresa (Ted); and her grandchildren, Chris and Sydney. Her final resting place was next to her loving husband, Bill, at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta, GA.

Mrs. Ann Gaddy Davis, 89, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 7, 2021.

Mrs. Davis was a Christian woman who loved the Lord. She loved her family dearly and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many. She was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County and started working at Fort Gordon immediately after graduation. She attended Georgia Military College at Fort Gordon in the evenings. Mrs. Davis was a native of Augusta and accompanied her husband in his military career in the U.S. Army to various destinations including, Germany, Turkey, Norfolk, VA and Oklahoma. She retired from Civil Service at Fort Gordon as The Army Family Action Plan Coordinator and after a couple of years of retirement, she started working at Savannah River Plant. She also worked as a poll manager at the Columbia County Board of Elections throughout her life. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling and meeting new friends. She enjoyed learning about the history and cultures of other countries.

Mrs. Davis is preceded in death by her husband, William Eugene “Bill” Davis; son, Martin Doyle “Scutter” Robertson; parents, William Boyd Gaddy and Elizabeth Eubanks Gaddy Foreman; two sisters, Mary G. Fontaine and Mildred G. Boyce. Survivors include her two daughters, Donna Davis Waters of Martinez, GA and Theresa Davis Odom (Ted) of Edgefield, SC; grandson, Christopher Odom; nieces, Jane Cartledge, Arlene Pearre, Phylllis Powell, Sharon Merritt, Sue Ash; nephew, Billy Fontaine; her caretaker, side-kick and friend, Brenda Johnson and her two grand-puppies, Leon and Rascal.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 1pm, Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Westover Memorial Park. Her friendship and love of life will be missed by her many friends and family who have shared so much joy with her throughout her life.
