Thomas Lindsey Kemp went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, May 14, 2018 at the age of 78. He was the beloved husband of Janice Johnston Kemp for over 53 years. Father of Michelle Kemp Watson (Nathan) of LaSalle, IL and Thomas Kevin Kemp (Sindy) of Barryton, MI, as well as the late Matthew William Kemp (Colleen of Gretna, LA). Grandfather of Wade Watson, Scott Watson, Mallory Watson, Mackenzie Watson, Gabriel Kemp and Bridget Kemp. Son of the late Thomas Arthur Kemp and Sarah Thomas Kemp. Brother of Hampton Kemp (Jeannie) of Fayetteville, GA as well as the late Nancy Kemp Carder (Grady). He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Tom, lived, loved and laughed well. A loving and devoted husband and hard working father, he served our country well in the United States Navy for 26 years, residing in Georgia, Illinois, California, and lastly, New Orleans, LA, where he retired as rank E-9 Master Chief. He later worked in marine electronics, employed with Bibbins and Rice, which later became Morgan Communications, where he retired after 20 years. For many years he humbly served as a deacon, taught an adult Sunday School class, and ran sound tech on Sunday mornings at FBC Gretna, later joining FBNO alongside Janice. When life allowed, he enjoyed every occasion to take road trips and savor God’s vast and beautiful creation with his family. He was an entertaining story-teller and had a great sense of humor that he was always quick and ready to share with others. He never met a stranger and he loved sharing his deep faith in Jesus. He will be deeply missed but we rejoice in knowing that we will see him again in heaven.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Baptist Church New Orleans on Friday, May 18 at 3:00 pm. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm. Express condolences at www.westsideleitzeagan.com. In lieu of flowers, donations to the ministries of First Baptist Church of New Orleans.
