Ronald James Hannakan, age 84, of Marrero, Louisiana went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 3rd, 2022. Ron was born in Portage, PA on July 5th, 1937 to the late Albert "Cliff" and Dorothy Hannakan. He was married to the late Mildred Ansardi Hannakan for over 35 years. Devoted father of Gregg Hannakan (Suzanne), Gary Hannakan, Tracy German, Beth Alphonso (Peter V), Carol Oramous (Kevin), Kenneth Bailes, Sr. (Bridget), Annie Reine (the late Paul), Norman Sanamo (Kita), Katherine Galliano (Horace), Gregory Gisclair (Grace), Eric Curole (Connie) and the late Sonny Bailes and Lavon Carnagey. Grandfather of Heidi, Gretchen, Brittany, Matthew, Kiera, Kylie, Peter VI, Amanda, Kevin Jr., Kenneth Jr., Kristen, Leonae, Nathan, Joelle, Westley, Ashley, Christine, Jessica, Travis, Jared, Jayme, Hobie, Angel, Brandon, Shannon, Brandy, Shawn, Alyssa, Marissa, Allie, Kenneth, Ericka, Seth, and the late Jason and Jaydon. Great grandfather of Caleb, Chloe, Nicholas, Nathan, Ryliegh, Graham, Lily, Emme, Leo, Ava, Karson, Brooklynn, Austin, Clair, Colin, Charlie, Michael, and Ashley. Brother of the late Lois Thompson and brother in law of Amelia Hartshorn. Ron is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who are left to cherish his memory.
Ron was a twice enlisted Sergeant in the U.S. Army where he received the honor of decorated Sharpshooter. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. In his early years, Ron enjoyed working as a machinist in Maryland. Afterwards, he moved to Louisiana where he began working in the oil/gas industry as a field supervisor for Coiled Tubing/Cudd Pressure Control. In his later years, he became a member of the security team at Wells Fargo. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, communicating around the world on his ham radio, reading Western novels, playing the lottery, and frequenting the casinos. Ron will always be remembered as a devoted Catholic, loving father, fun grandfather, great uncle, and a good friend to all.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, February 12th, 2022 in the chapel of Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero, Louisiana. A visitation will begin at 11:00AM and continue until the Mass time. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Gretna, Louisiana.
