Marian Elizabeth Cavalier Matherne, age 80, of Lafitte, Louisiana, went into Eternal rest on Monday, January 17th, 2022. Marian was born October 28th, 1941 to the late George Cavalier and Elsie Pintado Cavalier. Marian was married to the late Clarence J. Matherne, Jr. (Pat) for 57 years before he passed away in 2014. Devoted mother of Georganna M. Matherne, Clarence P. Matherne (Royale Ann), David J. Matherne, Sr., and Todd A. Matherne (Faith). Nana of Nicole Blanchard (Joshua), David Matherne, Jr. (Alyssa), Brittney Gatlin (Jeff), Nicholas Matherne, Tristan Matherne, and the late Brooke Small (T.J.). Great grandmother of Landon Barnes, Ashtyn Small, Ethan Blanchard, Eli Blanchard, Ryan Gatlin, and Rowen Gatlin. Sister of Elverta Cavalier Cook, Bertie Acosta (Emery), Shirley Ougel (late husband Rudy), and the late Florence Lavigne, Raymond Cavalier, Linwood Cavalier, Argey Cavalier, and Lorry Cavalier. Daughter in law of the late Clarence J. Matherne, Sr., and Rose L. Muscarello Matherne. Sister in law of the late Eugene and Sheila Coulon. Marian is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
Marian loved spending quality time with her family. She enjoyed working for Boutte's Bayou Restaurant (Katie) for 20 years and at the Jean Lafitte Town Hall. After leaving the job she loved, she dedicated 9 years of her life to being a caregiver for her husband.
Marian was a woman of faith and loved the Lord. She enjoyed cooking for her family. She adored her family and valued time, and making memories with all those she loved.
Our family would like to thank the staff of Heart of Hospice, especially Nurse Melinda Harlow, the staff and doctors of Ochsner Westbank for their care and support during the most difficult times.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00AM on January 27th, 2022 in the chapel of Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero, Louisiana. The Mass will be officiated by Father Salvador Galvez. A visitation will begin at 9:00AM and continue until the Mass time. Interment will follow at St. Pius X Cemetery in Crown Point, Louisiana. Following the interment, Marian's family would like all friends and family to celebrate her life at the multipurpose center in Lafitte, Louisiana.
