Leon Joseph Harvey Sr.

Leon “Jay” Joseph Harvey, Sr., born August 1, 1950, passed away on January 6, 2021 at home, surrounded by his family. A lifelong resident of Lafitte, La, he was the beloved husband of Corliss Coulon Harvey, and the best daddy in the world to Leon Harvey, Jr., Andrea Harvey Kuhn, and Vicky Harvey Kerner. He was a loving father-in-law to Willie Kerner, Jr., and Gerard Kuhn, Jr. “Jay” was also a proud and loving Paw-Paw to his grandchildren: Brittany, Jade, Trey, Victoria, Willie III, Lucas, Blaise, and Violet. He also treasured his time with his great-grandchildren: Josh, Mia, Annabelle, Camden, and TJ.

He was the son of the late William Harvey, Sr., and the late Anna Ruth Nunez Harvey. He was the dearly loved brother of William Harvey, Jr. (Brenda), and Jane Harvey Rimmer (Michael), and he was preceded in death by his beloved brother Nathan Harvey, Sr.

Leon worked for the Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff’s Office for many years and formed cherished bonds with many of his co-workers. He was a fisherman at heart; fishing and trawling were his true passions. He cherished his time on the water and the bonds he formed with other fisherman across the Gulf coast.

“Jay” loved life, and he loved bringing beauty and joy into the world with his God-given talents in woodworking, oil painting, drawing, carving, poetry, song, and storytelling.

Most of all, he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and he lived a beautiful life for Him.

His family would like to thank Heart of Hospice for their care for Leon for over two years. And to his nurse Melinda Briscoe Harlow, words cannot express our gratitude to you for all you have done for us.

Friends and family are invited to attend the funeral services at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 2653 Jean Lafitte Blvd, Lafitte, LA, on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at 9:00am. Mass will be held at noon, followed by interment at St. Pius X Mausoleum in Crown Point, LA.
