Dr. Frederick John Brown, of Belle Chasse, Louisiana went to meet the Lord on Friday, September 16th, 2022, also the day of his birth, at the age of 91. Frederick was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late John Frederick Brown and Elizabeth Grebenstein Brown. Devoted husband of Brenda Labiche Brown for 48 years. Loving father of Danette Stavrides (Nick), Anja Campbell (Pete), Anna Hurtt (Kevin), and the late Carla Brown. Proud Paw Paw of Marika Stavrides, Tia Jones (Jesse), Sofia Reichenau (Matt), Caroline Fontaine (Cody), and the late Demetrios Stavrides. Great Grandfather of Trent Jones, Gracie Lynn Jones, Lillian Fontaine, Deme Reichenau, and Mattalie Reichenau. Frederick was also the brother of the late Ida Ostrowski. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends who will miss him dearly.
Frederick was a 1948 graduate of St. Aloysius High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. He began his college career at Tulane University obtaining his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and later obtaining his second Master's Degree in the same field of study. After his Bachelor's Degree, Frederick obtained his Master's Degree from Louisiana State University in Electrical Engineering. Finally, Frederick received his Doctorate Degree from Tulane University in Biomedical Engineering.
Frederick went to work for Boeing in Seattle, Washington after earning his Bachelor's Degree. After 1 year in Seattle, he returned to New Orleans and joined the United States Navy for 2 years. After his enlistment, Frederick began to work for LP&L for around 8 years. This career did not suit him, and left this career to pursue his passion for teaching. After pursuing his PhD, he went on to teach Mechanical Engineering at the University of New Orleans. Those were the happiest days of his life. He was doing what he loved, and his students loved him. During this time, he also taught technical courses to LP&L and NOPSI employees, in addition to preparing students for their professional engineering exam. Teaching was definitely his passion.
Frederick was a charter member of the Westbank Optimist Club, as well as a member of the LA Engineering Society in which served as the President of the New Orleans chapter in the 1970's. He enjoyed building things and solving puzzles. He was very gregarious and enjoyed a good party , a cigar, and a glass of wine. He was also a devout parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He made friends wherever he was.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass at 1:00PM on Thursday, September, 22nd, 2022 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 8969 Highway 23 in Belle Chasse, Louisiana. The funeral Mass will be officiated by Father Kyle Dave. A visitation will be held at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero, Louisiana on Wednesday, September 21st, 2022 from 6:00 PM until 9:00PM. The visitation will continue on Thursday morning at church from 10:00AM until the Mass time. Interment will follow the Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Cemetery in Belle Chasse, Louisiana.
