Elida Garibay Gonzales passed away peacefully on December 2nd. Elida had been residing at Buckner Westminster Assisted Living Facility in Longview, Texas for the past year. She was born on September 9, 1933 in Buckholts, Texas, the daughter of indigenous immigrants from Mexico, Ladislado and Salome Torres Garibay.
She married Jack Gonzales in 1950 and a remarkable success story in the farming and farmland investing business began. They started farming near Petersburg, Texas along with Jack's brother and Elida's sister, Roman Clementina Gonzales. In 1955 they purchased an irrigated farm north of Plainview, Texas and moved to that farm. From 1955 until 1973, Jack and Elida owned and rented multiple farms in the Plainview area. In 1973, they sold the farmland in the Plainview area and purchased farmland south of Waco near Marlin, Texas. The farmland near Marlin is owned by the family today and is leased to an area farmer.
While living near Marlin, Elida was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and later when she moved to Robinson, she became a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Elida was preceded in death by her parents, Ladislado and Salome Garibay, her husband Jack Gonzales in 1994, three brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by, two children, David Gonzales (Carol) and Olga Kattner (Steve), two grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many great friends.
Graveside service will be Friday, December 13th at 10:00 am at Hillcrest Cemetery, Marlin, Texas. Memorial donations may be sent to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Waco, Texas.
