Billy Martin, 88, of Marlin, Texas entered into the rest of his Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, December 29, 2024. Billy Martin was born on July 5, 1936 in Mercedes, Tx to Joseph Martin and Joe Ellen Shields Martin. Billy always said that he graduated from the “School of Hard Knocks.” He began his business career in advertising with the radio station, KRIO, in McAllen Texas in the Rio Grande Valley back in the 1950’s.
Before retiring in Marlin, he had a show room at the Dallas Apparel Mart where he represented several clothing manufacturers for over 40 years. Billy was chosen as “National Salesman of the Year” for Dickies Manufacturing Company and the Fruit of the Loom Underwear Company.
Retirement gave Billy an opportunity to serve the community of Marlin. He was active in the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, plus he served as president of the Marlin Community Center for a time. While in service, he worked with others to help the stray animal situation, and the preservation of Hillcrest Cemetery.
Billy had a love for life, and he had even more love for the Lord. He was witnessing to friends and others about the Salvation of God through his Son Jesus Christ even up to the very end of life as well as during his final months while in Hospice care.
