Mary Ann Brooks

She was born February 29, 1928 in Letcher County, KY to the late Alonzo and Bertha Blevins. Mrs. Brooks worked for 25 years as a Secretary to the Principal at Marion Elementary School until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marion since 1963 and she was a former member of Sweet Adelines International. Mrs. Brooks was an avid bridge player, she liked to paint, she was a great cook and loved to collect recipes and she loved chocolate. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Brady Hunter Brooks, who adoringly treated her like a queen; a son-in-law, Jim Young; and seven siblings.

Surviving Mrs. Brooks are her son, Mark Brooks of Charlotte, NC; her daughter, Becky Brooks Young of Marion, NC; four grandchildren, Ginger Gorecki Webb and husband, Ben of Marion, NC, Jacob Gorecki and wife, Shanna of Nebo, NC, Joseph Gorecki of Matthews, NC and Meredith Malherbe Brooks of Charlotte, NC; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler Gorecki, Harper Webb, Stella Webb and Addison Gorecki.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Marion with Dr. Scott Hagaman and Rev. Terry Childers officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
