Mrs. Turner was born March 5, 1932 in Bakersville, NC to the late Clayton Buchanan and Annie Ledford Buchanan Smith. She worked at Parker’s Hosiery until her retirement and was a member of Old Fort United Methodist Church. She was strong in her faith and read her Bible diligently. Mrs. Turner loved gardening and working with her flowers and she also enjoyed reading. Her home and her family were her pride and joy and she will be forever missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her beloved husband M.G. Turner; her son, Alvin Turner; and four siblings, Dorothy Ann Buchanan, Veda Kaylor, Delores Thomas, and Hayden Buchanan.
Those left behind to cherish Mrs. Turner’s memory are two daughters, Janet Perry (Earnest) and Janice Mink (Steve) all of Old Fort, NC; four grandchildren, Adam Perry (Jessica), Amanda Mink, Matt Mink and Kimberly Nesbit; four great-grandchildren, Jensen Nesbit, Will Nesbit, Kinley Perry and Mackenzie Foreman; six siblings, Avery Buchanan (Margaret) of Spruce Pine, NC, June Lowman of Hickory, NC, Bill Buchanan (Becky) of Granite Falls, NC, Wade Buchanan (Brenda) of Connelly Springs, NC, Richard Smith (Debra) of Hildebran, NC; and Edward Smith of Charlotte, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Old Fort United Methodist Church. A funeral service to celebrate Mrs. Turner’s life will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Kimberly Baker officiating. Burial will follow the service at Bethlehem Community Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be: Earnest Perry, Steve Mink, Adam Perry, Michael Walker, Brandon Smith and Robert Lawson
