William Louis Hotz

He was born in Petersburg, Va. on March 28,1945 to the late Christine Reiter Hotz and Rudolph Louis Hotz.

Bill graduated from Saint Joseph’s High School, Petersburg, Va. and Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in Business Administration.

He served his country for 3 years in the US Army, Quartermaster Division. His assignments took him to Fort Lee, Va. and Kagnew Station, Asmara, Eritrea (formerly Ethiopia), on the Horn of Africa, for 19 months.

Following his military commitment and graduation from college, Bill’s professional life was focused on retail management for 25 years. He then transitioned to horticulture for the remainder of his career. He served as President of the Georgia Flower Growers Association 2003-2005. His love for flowers, gardening, and the outdoors was a passion both professionally and personally.

Bill was a devout member of St. Ann Catholic Church since 1982, upon moving to Marietta, Ga. He was involved in many ministries, including the Knights of Columbus Council 8376 as a Fourth Degree Knight. Having joined the KoC at age 18, he served in many roles over the years, including Grand Knight. He could often be found helping with the “Adopt a Family” program, “Apple Annie” Poinsettia, Christmas Tree, and the Mother’s Day Flower sales.

His love of travel was inspired while being stationed in East Africa. Together, he and Peggy, were able to explore parts of Eritrea, Ethiopia, Europe, and later visit many other countries around the world over their 57 years of marriage. Traveling gave him a great appreciation for people and the diverse cultures around this beautiful world in which we are blessed to live.

Bill’s greatest love and devotion was to his wife, children and grandchildren. Bill and Peggy met in college on a “Blind Date” and were married two years later on Nov. 4, 1967. The times spent with family were cherished, precious and most important to him. During the last several challenging years, he loved every moment he could be with his family, both at home and in the hospital.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Margaret Baskervill Hotz (Peggy), children, Katherine Hotz Cousineau (Jason), Woodstock, Ga, Caroline Hotz Jackson (Leonard), Stevenson Ranch, Ca, Stephen Baskervill Hotz (Cristy), Marietta, Ga; 9 grandchildren and a great grandson: Hanna, Haley, Christian, Brian, Elliana, Adrian, Kayson, Lucy, Landon, and Judah; Sisters: Patricia Anne Kolakoski, Petersburg, Va, Mary Frances Redding, Alexandria, Va; Brother: Rudolph David Hotz (Pam), La Grange, Ky; Brother-in-law: William Baskervill, Jr.(Jane), Asheville, NC and many nieces and nephews.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Christine Reiter Hotz, Rudolph Louis Hotz; mother and father-in-law, Margaret C. Baskervill, William Baskervill, Sr; brothers-in-law: Dr. David L. Redding, James R. Kolakoski; sisters-in-law; Elizabeth Hotz, Sandra Kotarides.

We will be forever grateful for the many physicians, nurses, care partners, and therapists at Wellstar Kennestone Medical Center, the Inpatient Rehab Unit, Outpatient Neuro Rehab Unit, and Palliative Care Services, the Emory Brain and Movement Clinic, Delmar Gardens, and all who have cared for Bill and supported our family over the last two years. May God continue to bless your healing hands and the work that you do each day.

The family will receive friends at HM Patterson and Son’s Funeral Home, Canton Hill Chapel, 1157 Old Canton Road, Marietta, Georgia, 30068, Thursday, January 2, 2025, between the hours of 5-7:30 PM. A Vigil Service will begin at 7:00 PM.

A Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 3, 2025 at Saint Ann Catholic Church, 4905 Roswell Road, Marietta, Georgia, 30062

Internment will be a private ceremony at Saint Ann Catholic Church, Marietta, Ga.
