Richard McCrillis, 78, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 27, 2025. Born in Rochester, New Hampshire, to the late Arnold and Lorraine McCrillis, Richard had a distinguished career with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), where he spent many years contributing to the growth and development of the city's public transportation system. He worked with MARTA for several decades, ultimately rising to the role of CEO, where he brought visionary leadership and dedication to the organization in the final chapter of his career.
Above all, Richard was a family man. His greatest legacy lies in the love he shared with his family and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and compassion. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His deep sense of responsibility and dedication to those he loved were the foundation of his life. He was a man who always put others first, leading by example with an open heart and a generous spirit.
Richard found joy in the simple pleasures of life, often spending time in the North Georgia mountains or the Puerto Rican montañas, where he cherished the beauty of nature. He delighted in seeking out local food and enjoying live local music, which brought him great happiness. Richard also loved to travel with his wife Rosa, exploring new places and creating lasting memories together. He had a remarkable ability to enjoy life’s quiet moments, finding peace in the stillness of everyday life. His warmth, unique New England humor, and love for his family created a legacy that will be deeply missed.
He was a cherished husband to his beloved wife and best friend of 47 years, Rosa. As a father, he was a constant source of guidance, encouragement, and support to his children. His pride in his family was evident to all who knew him. Richard's greatest joy was spending time with his four grandchildren—Sebastian, Gavin, Gabriel, and Mayabella McCrillis—who brought him endless joy and laughter. Whether playing games, telling stories, or simply being in their company, Richard found deep happiness in his role as a grandfather.
Richard is survived by his wife, Rosa; children, Joseph (Angela) McCrillis, Heather McCrillis, and Jason (Maria Mercedes) McCrillis; siblings, Arnold McCrillis Jr., Robert (Suzanne) McCrillis, and Dr. Fran Rancourt; and his adored grandchildren. His family, friends, and community will forever carry the memory of his love, his generosity, and his remarkable character.
Richard’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of kindness, integrity, and dedication to family will continue to inspire.
A visitation from 5-8pm and prayer vigil commencing at 7:30pm will be held in Richard's honor on Monday, April 7, 2025 at H.M. Patterson & Son-Canton Hill, 1157 Old Canton Road NE, Marietta, GA 30068. A funeral service will follow on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM, also at H.M. Patterson & Son-Canton Hill.
