Needham Vernon Smith

Major Needham Vernon Smith, age 92, of Marietta, GA passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021. He was born in 1929 to father, Needham C. Smith and Emmie Woods Smith. He graduated from University of Maryland with a Masters of Business Administration. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1970 after over 20 years of service, then continued his career working for various Property/Casualty insurance companies as an underwriter. In his spare time, he liked to golf and was a member of Indian Hills Country Club until his early 80s.

Needham is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Isabella May (Meg) Smith, infant daughter, Donna Smith, his parents Needham and Emma Smith, brothers Ronald Smith, Gerald Smith and Jarvis Smith, sister Martha Rodriguez and grandson, Michael Sansone. He is survived by his daughters, Linda (Katy) and her husband William McGloin, Barbara and her husband James Quigley , Debbie and her husband Dr. Aly Abdel-Mageed, and Denise Basile. Also surviving are Grandchildren Holly Sansone, James (Stephen) Quigley, Joseph Basile III, Gregory and wife Mariana (Cardozo) Basile, Adam and wife Farah (Alam) Abdel-Mageed and Sarah Abdel-Mageed, as well as his Great-Grandchild Noah Abdel-Mageed. He is also survived by his beloved brothers, Willis Smith, Carlton and his wife Gloria Smith, as well as his close friend, Audrey Tarvin.

The family will receive guests at H.M. Patterson Canton Hills between the hours of 12:30 and 2:00 pm on Friday, December 3rd, followed immediately by a memorial service. Interment will occur on December 28th at 1:00pm at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
