While surrounded by loved ones, Melton Hood passed away early Thursday morning, March 12, 2020 in Atlanta, Georgia after a battle with complications related to congestive heart failure and stroke. Melton was 69 years old.
Melton was born on April 23, 1950 in Anniston, Alabama to Margaret and Robert Hood. He was a graduate of Anniston High School class of 1968 and received a bachelor’s degree in Management from Georgia Tech in 1972. Melton was actively involved in Georgia Tech’s Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and Varsity Tennis Team. He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army at Fort Hood, Texas from 1972-1976. Following his military service, he built a successful career as a sales and marketing executive. He worked for a number of companies, primarily in the building materials sector. He received a Master’s of Business Administration from Georgia State University in 1980.
Melton was an avid golfer and tennis player, dedicated Georgia Tech football fan, frequent traveler, “Oldies” enthusiast, grill connoisseur, party-planner. He was known for cracking wry jokes, sending birthday cards, busting a dance move, and enjoying steak dinners. He was an active member of the Roswell United Methodist Church and supported a number of local charities. Melton was deeply committed to providing for his family and caring for their well-being. Later in life, he gracefully persevered through a number of health challenges.
Melton is survived by his wife, Lynn Hood; children, Leslie and Julia Hood; and brothers, Bob and Dan Hood. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Robert Hood.
Due to current health concerns, Melton’s life and memory will be celebrated at Roswell United Methodist Church at a future date. The graveside service will be Tuesday, March 17, at Highland Cemetery (1015 East 10th St, Anniston, AL 36207) at 11:00CST. All are welcome!
