Mark earned degrees from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Commerce and the University of Wisconsin School of Law. For more than thirty years Mark pursued a professional career building and managing successful private placement investment portfolios for pension funds in both the public and private sectors. Roughly half of his career was with the State of Wisconsin public employees’ retirement system, and the remainder for the pension clients of major life insurance companies.
A lifelong sports fan, Mark played tennis into his mid-30s including as a 2-year letter winner on his high school varsity tennis team. He gradually switched to golf after that. For more than twenty years Mark was a member of the East Cobb Classic (55+) Golf Club. He served the Club in several roles, including helping to organize weekly outings and then for one year each as the Club’s Vice President and President.
Mark is survived by Cynthia, his wife of 47 years, whom he met while both were students at the University of Wisconsin. Cindy joined Mark as a strong and loyal supporter of the University and its athletic teams with many years of season ticket purchases as well as financial contributions. Mark is also survived by two children, Daniel (Jamie) of Cary, NC and Lisa of Middleton, WI. He is also survived by a brother, Neal, of Thornton, CO and sister Janis, of Palo Alto, CA, as well as nieces and nephews.
Mark always considered his sense of humor to be invaluable in helping him cope with the stresses of everyday life. With jokes, puns, and one-liners, he never stopped trying to give other people in his life a reason to smile.
At Mark’s request, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, 100 Raoul Wallenberg Place S., Washington, DC 20024-2126; Good Mews Animal Foundation, 3805 Robinson Rd., Marietta, GA 30068; or the Atlanta Community Food Bank, P.
