Our deepest sympathy to Steve's family.   I had the pleasure of being Steve's barber at Dobbins and then at East Cobb Barbershop for over 25 years.  I will sure miss him and his smile.   I will miss the stories of his life, his family's and the many stories of the military he shared with us at the shop.

I have loving memories of how Steve did so many nice gestures and assistance to all of the residence in  Manning Villa folks.  He was elected president several times.  I looked forward to seeing him walk his dog Vanilla several times a day. Also seeing him get tanner and tanner in the hot sun at the swimming pool.  Always friendly and a gentleman.  I last saw him at Kroger getting groceries .  Visiting with him was a a tremendous uplift to me. I had moved out of the complex for 5 years but never forgot Steve's great smile.   I have missed you. Steve was a part of our family for many years and even after he was divorced from my sister, (though I didn't see him very often but just spoke to him on the phone with my husband visiting him not very long ago),  he and my husband stayed in contact through the years with a lasting friendship.  As I read what Haley Barnes wrote, I had hoped with I prayed that Steve would recover but  it didn't happen. 
 Steve took his journey to Heaven and it's going to be more than diffiult for his kids and grandkids but I hope they know that he will continue to love them from Heaven and will know how they love and miss him.    My love, and thoughts are with you that he loves and who loves him.   ps this photo was taken around Christmas in 72 I believe,  my Mom was very surprised by the wonderful present as Steve was helping her with such a smile.

He still lived in his own home and up until a few months ago he was driving and totally self sufficient. The last few months he has suffered with severe back/hip/shoulder pain and several mini strokes and I'm thankful he is now healed and in the arms of Jesus. He was the most precious Dad anyone could ask for. He loved his children, grandchildren and his only great grandson, Mason with all his heart. He also loved his rescue dog "nilla" she was loyal and loving.. He was a loving, patient and generous man and we will miss him more than words can say. Although he was 80 and one would think my step brother and sister, sister, mom and I would be prepared for this, we were not. Somehow we thought he would live forever. He was our rock and the one we could always depend on. I'm so thankful for his life and the example he set for us. I'm so thankful for the close relationship I had with him. He loved the Lord, his country and he loved his family. Please remember us in your prayers.

So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast and unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for as much as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Steve Thornton was the best man I have ever known. He served our country for 20 years in the Army, and 30 more in the Navy! What a sacrifice.  He was kind and loving.  He never gave up on his children and grandchildren.  He was always pushing them forward and supporting them however he could.  Steve was patient and kind. I will always be grateful for his ways and quick smile. 

I don't think Steve was quite ready to die.
His soul is floating above us, looking down on all his friends and family he is gonna miss...pretty sure he cries for us as we are crying for him.
But, When fear is gone,  life opens up all it's grandness.


At the end of the day we are all going to make mistakes. 
We are all going to do things we regret, even to those we care about.  It's unavoidable. 
But at the end,  what matters is how we address our failings.  How you treat your family,  how you treat your friends,  how you forgive,  and how you love.  One more thing, you never get your whole bucket list done, because you keep adding to it.
Because everyday there is something new to amaze us, it's how we know we are alive.

So be surprised, cherish the time you have, because everyday is a gift,  every moment a blessing.

Of course all the glory to God,
There is only one way this ends well ...Steve knew it. He would tell you straight up.
Jesus!! He was a believer!!Jesus said I am the way, the truth,  and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Repent of your sin, believe in Jesus, follow HIM, leave this world clinging to him in faith, knowing he has you in His hands.  His grace is sufficient.
