The world lost an extraordinary man on Friday morning, maybe not in the ways that we typically mark, like education or work. In those areas he was a simple, honest man, but in the ways that really matter, he was remarkable. He was a kind, generous, reliable, and giving man. My Dad was just a kid himself when he became a father to me, but he never faltered in being there for my Mom and myself. He fiercely loved my Mom and was my greatest cheerleader. He gave my Mom and me grace even when we weren’t deserving of that grace. He faced so many scary and challenging health issues with positivity and courage. He did this until the end. After someone passes, all the things that felt hard or frustrating at the end seem to fall away. All I can say about the true essence of my Dad is how much he LOVED. Oh his heart, it was huge!
Friends and family will gather for a private service to honor his life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of these foundations to support others struggling with the same challenges my Dad faced:
American Hemochromatosis Society
American Cancer Society
Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research
