Robert E. Thiede

He was born May 14, 1923, in Marengo to Fred and Mary (O'Leary) Thiede.

In 1946, he married Elnor Nates.

He was a lifelong resident of Marengo and a dairy farmer. He enjoyed playing cards and cheering for the Chicago Cubs. Most of all, he enjoyed his family, friends and his dog, Bear.

He is survived by his grandchildren, Gary, Kevin, Shelly, Jamey, Cassie, Scott, Shaun, Steve, Sarah and Tyson; many great-grandchildren; his sister, Lorraine (the late Herbert) Swanlund; and his brother, James (the late Carol) Thiede.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elnor; his children, Larry, infant son Gerald, Bonnie, Pam and Cindy; his great-grandson, Tyler; his brother, Clifford; and his sisters, Isabelle Thomas, Bernice Bloedorn, Gertrude Stanke and Geraldine Standish.

The visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March, at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E Grant Hwy., Marengo. A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 19, at the funeral home.

Interment will be private.

Memorials may be given to the family to be established later.
