Robert “Bob” A. Parnell, 85, of Marengo died Thursday, February 17, 2011, at Hospice of Northeastern Illinois in Woodstock. He was born July 29, 1925, in Chicago to Alex and Anna (Duda) Sienkiewicz. In 1960, he married Carlene Griebel in Rockford. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He moved to Marengo in 1952, to work for Arnold Engineering. He lived in the same house for the last 51 years and was able to develop many friendships in the community. In his career as an electrical engineer he had many achievements; including being a consultant for NASA, obtaining five patents and one of his designs was used as part of the Viking-Mars Mission.
He is survived by his wife, Carlene, and his children, William Parnell and Mimi (Kirk) Leiner.
Visitation will be from 11am to the 1pm funeral service on Saturday, February 26, at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Hwy., Marengo. Interment will be in Marengo City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, 405 Lake Zurich Rd., Barrington, IL 60010.
