Our family’s Matriarch, Elizabeth “Bette” Barbara Angus–Davison moved onward from this life at the age of 94 on October 17, 2023. Bette is the first (that we know of) in our family’s ancestry to make it to this grand old age! Bette was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on October 10, 1929 to Helen & Frank Bator. Bette is survived by her sister, Felicia “Phyllis” Sinoradzki, her brother, Gene “Jiggs” Bator, her sons, Harry & John Angus and her grandsons, Erik Tonkovich & Clinton Angus and her granddaughter, Kelly Angus. Bette is also survived by her great grandchildren, Alexa, Emma & Danny and her great great granddaughter, Ariella.
Bette is predeceased by her sister, Florence, her daughter Cindi, and her grandsons, Sean & Danny. Bette is also predeceased by her first husband and father of her three children, Harry, and her second husband, Bernard.
Bette raised her family in Arrowhead Village, Brick, New Jersey enjoying a full life with family, friends and neighbors always nearby. She also worked in Real Estate and retail at Macy’s department store. In the 70’s Bette and Harry opened a Carvel Ice Cream store on Fischer Blvd. in Toms River. Bette was an artist at ice cream cake design and had a special talent for piping and perfect lettering on cakes. Her calligraphy skills too were of a unique, distinctive quality like no other.
After selling the Carvel franchise, Bette & Harry had a plan to move south to Marco Island, Florida and enjoy semi–retirement. However, Harry passed suddenly in 1987. Bette maintained focus and proceeded with the plan, and followed through with their dreams. In 1988 Bette relocated solo to Marco where she began her new chapter, enjoying condo life at Smokehouse Bay.
At some point, Bette began dating her East Side High School sweetheart, Bernie, and it wasn’t long before Bernie & Bette were wed. They enjoyed a healthy lifestyle together traveling to Europe, New Zealand, California (to visit her sons) and all over the sunshine state of Florida. They participated in dance contests, life at the beach, sunsets and all kinds of physical and social activities. Bette loved music, especially Mantovani, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Bob Dylan and later she became enamored with the Opera.
Bette worked part time at the Marco Island Marriott as a concierge for over 25 years where she was loved by her associates and much of the Collier County Community. She was an active member of the Concierge Association and participated in all types of activities in South Florida. Even as Bette aged further, she could not sit still and was an active volunteer at the Marco Island Historical Museum where she expanded her reach and gained even more admiration and love from associates and visitors from around the world.
Bette’s last few year’s were at My Tapestry at The Arlington in Naples. Her son, Harry and his partner Robin and Bette’s granddaughter, Kelly moved to Bette’s condo to help care for her during her twilight years. God Bless Bette and God Bless Harry, Robin & Kelly for their dedicated companionship and love.
Bette’s cremains will be flown to New Jersey by her son, John, to be placed to rest beside her first husband and father of her children, Harry Angus. We invite all who loved Bette to join us on Friday, November 3rd at 11:30 am at the graveside, St. Catharine's Cemetery in Sea Girt, New Jersey. Please plan to arrive a few minutes early.
We are going to miss this vibrant, upbeat woman who lived a wonderful life with a positive and playful attitude!
