Bill was born on May 13, 1942 in Gloucester to Norman and Velma who predeceased him. He is survived by the love of his life and wife, Nancy, and six children, Liz, Erin, Matt, Ryan, Katie, and Jenny, eight grandchildren, and sister Norma Hagstrom.
Everyone who knew Bill learned that his greatest passion besides his wife and children was baseball, in particular, the Boston Red Sox. Bill was a superstar athlete and baseball player at Gloucester High School. He ultimately signed with the Red Sox organization right out of high school and played for them from 1961 to 1967.
After injuries forced him to retire from baseball, he worked and lived in Marblehead for the last 35 years where he and Nancy raised their three youngest children.
Anyone who has had the privilege of watching a Red Sox game with Bill couldn’t help but become a Red Sox fan or walk away with a greater knowledge of the game of baseball.
A funeral service will be held at the Old North Church, 35 Washington Street, Marblehead on Tuesday, December 18 at 11AM with a celebration of Bill’s life at the Gerry 5, 210 Beacon Street, Marblehead immediately thereafter. Come wear all of your Red Sox gear and help us celebrate Bill’s life together. Arrangements by Eustis and Cornell of Marblehead.
