Robert W. Bailey of Marblehead, MA, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 25, 2015, at the Soldiers’ Home in Chelsea. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 62 years, Nancy (Abrams) Bailey of Marblehead; two sons, Glenn Bailey of Milton, NH, and Gregg Bailey of Madison, NH; a daughter, Joyce Acquafredda of Marblehead and her husband Alessandro; two grandchildren, Gianluca and Michela Acquafredda; a brother, Thomas Bailey Jr., of Littleton; several nieces, a nephew, and several cousins. He was the son of the late Thomas and Anna (O’Keefe) Bailey.
Robert was raised in Swampscott, MA. He and his elder brother played together on the Swampscott High School’s football team, and in the 1943 state championship football match. He graduated from Bryant & Stratton College. He served as a Sergeant First Class in the US 24th Infantry Division in the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Korean Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, and the United Nations Service Medal. He was a member of the DAV and the 24th Infantry Division Association. He was employed as an accountant and spent most of his career with the Internal Revenue Service in Boston. He enjoyed sports, boating, mountain climbing, theatre and antique cars, previously owning a Model A Ford.
