Dennis J. McMahon

Dennis J. McMahon (Denny) of Marblehead, MA died suddenly surrounded by family on April 25th at the age of 69. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was a graduate of Michigan State University, and a die-hard Detroit Tigers and MSU fan. Denny served his country proudly in the US Army and in Vietnam in 1967-68. He was happily married to the love of his life, Karen McMahon for over 44 years. He was the proud father of Tom McMahon of Marblehead and Casey McMahon of Mammoth Lakes, CA. He worked as an accountant at HPSC in Boston for almost 30 years and retired in 2004. Denny was an avid bridge player, golfer, and a member of the Gerry 5 in Marblehead. He enjoyed time on his Boston Whaler cruising around Marblehead Harbor and adjacent waters. Karen and he were members of the Boston Yacht Club for over 40 years. Denny had a wonderful sense of humor, to which his many friends will attest. This was reflected in the naming of his boat that created a mild controversy among his ocean-going friends and neighbors. Both Denny and Karen loved to travel together and took many trips to wonderful places around the world with their friends and their children. He especially enjoyed driving with Karen on local short trips by car and touring the beautiful venues of the North Shore. When relaxing at home, Denny could be found working on numerous tasks, his boat, helping with neighborhood projects, or helping neighbors when an extra pair of hands were needed. A voracious reader, Denny loved to sit in his backyard in the summer shade reading historical novels with one or two family cats in his lap. He was a person of selfless caring and would help anyone who needed a hand. He was considered by friends and neighbors as one of the world’s all-time special people. All that knew him were blessed by his generosity, sense of humor, and loving nature. He will truly be missed. Funeral arrangements will be handled By Eustis and Cornell, 142 Elm St, Marblehead, MA and a memorial service will be held at the Boston Yacht Club Friday May 1st from 2-4PM.
