Ann Gilligan Canniffe, age 88, of Marblehead, MA, passed away peacefully at the Bertram Assisted Living Facility, on Friday, January 13, 2023. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Edward Canniffe III, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage.
Born in Roxbury, MA, Ann was the daughter of the late Patrick and Margaret (Savage) Gilligan.
She was the devoted mother of three daughters, Mary Canniffe-McDonald, Bethany Brennan (Brian), Emily Canniffe and one son, Jamie Canniffe (Rebekka); the cherished grandmother of fourteen grandchildren and the great-grandmother of two boys.
She grew up in Roxbury, MA, and graduated from The Sacred Heart High School. She was also the first class of graduating women, from Boston College’s School of Education, in 1956. She raised her family in Marblehead, MA. She was an Elementary School teacher and Reading specialist for the Marblehead Public School System. She was a devout Catholic and attended mass every morning. She was passionate about football, politics and nutrition. She adored the family golden retrievers and multiple family cats. One of her favorite things to do on the weekend was sail with her family.
A funeral mass will be celebrated for Mrs. Canniffe at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 28th, at Our Lady, Star of the Sea Church, Marblehead. Burial will be private.
