Nannie Jo Phillips

Nannie Jo Dickey Phillips (Nan) was born February 27, 1938, to James and Dorothy Dickey in New Hope, Alabama. She passed away peacefully at home in Meadowlakes, Texas on September 29, 2024.

Her family moved from New Hope, Alabama to Shreveport, Louisiana and then to Texas City, TX where Nan graduated high school. She attended Abilene Christian College where she met her loving husband, Sammy Dwain Phillips.

Nan met Sammy at McDonald Dormitory open house. She remarked to her roommates “I think I am going to marry that guy!” And that she did - about one year later on December 23, 1957.

Nan and Sam moved around Texas after they married, living in Abilene, Clyde, Longview, Corsicana, Waco, Marshall, and Brownsville. Nan was a Real Estate Broker in Brownsville and was given a trip to Hawaii for the national convention that was held the year she was President of the Board.

After retirement, Nan and Sam moved back to Longview, and then in 2016 to Meadowlakes.

Nan lived a long, beautiful life as a Christian woman and a member of the church of Christ. She loved to bake and was a joy to all who knew her. Nan was so loved and cherished by her husband, who took excellent care of her until the end.

Nan is preceded in death by her parents, James Dickey and Dorothy Dickey Wood, and a grandson, Christopher Chandler. She is survived by her husband Sammy Phillips; her brother Jimmy Dickey (Mary Ann); her children, Terri Nanette Chandler (Steve), Cynthia Gail Groves (Robert), Sammy Dwain Phillips, Jr (Cindy) and Mary Schaffrath (Jim) whom Nan considered her “other daughter”. Nan is also survived by grandchildren, Steven Chandler (Caroline), Michael Speer, Brittany Speer, and Jacqueline Baker (Charles). She is also survived by eight great grandchildren, Stephen Chandler, Ashton Chandler, Preston Chandler, Brody Pinnix, Dylan Pinnix, Indio Speer, Ember Speer, and Groves Baker and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express our love and appreciation to neighbors, friends, kinfolk, and New Century Hospice, especially Tracy Morgan and to Robbye Floyd who was with Nan at the end of life. Thank you!

Visitation October 6, 2024, 2:00-4:30 pm and Funeral Service October 7, 2024 10:30 am at Clements Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls, TX. Burial to follow at Fowler Cemetery, Spicewood, TX.
