He was a 1978 graduate of Chisholm High School in Enid, Oklahoma and attended Seminole Junior College in Seminole, Oklahoma, where he studied law.
He began his law enforcement career in Lago Vista, Texas in 1985 and was a Sergeant there until he left for the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office in 1987. While at Bastrop County, he worked jail and patrol assignments before being moved to the Organized Crime Taskforce where he worked undercover investigations.
In 1992, he began working for the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office as a K-9 handler on the Narcotics Enforcement Team until being elected as Precinct 3 Constable in 1994, He held that office until 2002 at which time he served on the Marble Falls City Council until re-taking the Constables Office in 2003 where he served until his death. He was also a Forensic Hypnotist as well as a Deputy U.S. Customs Agent, of which he was very proud.
Jimmy’s career was not limited to law enforcement. He was a Master Electrician for over 30 years and for several years, he ran a successful DJ and Sound business, providing music for weddings and parties all over the Hill Country.
Jimmy was also very active in the Masonic Fraternity. He was a Master Mason, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a York Rite Mason and a Shriner. He enjoyed dedicating his time and talents to the philanthropic activities carried on by all branches of Masonry. For many years, he also served on the board of directors for the Burnet County Fair and Rodeo.
Jimmy married Linda Wall in 1991 and they have two children; daughter Brook Michelle Hanson and son Garrett James Ballard.
Jimmy is survived by his wife Linda Wall Ballard, his daughter Brook Hanson and her husband Glenn, and his son Garrett. He is also survived by his mother, Sally Bush of Oklahoma, sisters Sue Burkes of Oklahoma, Lisa Calivas of Arizona, Rhonda Cox of Oklahoma and his brother Mike Cordell of Oklahoma. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and life-long friends.
