James H Rockett

James Henry Rockett passed away May 1, 2018 in Temple, Tx at William R Courtney Texas State Veterans Home at the age of 93. James (Jim) was born March 16, 1925 in Red Oak, Tx to his parents, Rev. Thomas Alfonso Rockett and Lena Belle McWhirter Rockett. His brother, William Mac Rockett preceded him in death. Since James Rockett's father was a Presbyterian minister, Jim grew up in towns around and including Dallas, Tx. He graduated from Adamson High School, Dallas, Tx in 1943. Upon graduation, he traveled to San Antonio and joined the U.S. Army Air Corp, later known as U.S Air Force. Color blindness prevented him from becoming a pilot; therefore, he went to the other end of the plane and became a tail gunner on a B-24 bomber and served in the CBI Theater until the end of WWll in 1945. He signed up and served again from 1946 to 1949.

He married Mary Jo Flewellen in 1946 and divorced in 1984. Jim Rockett worked as a sales rep. and retired from the electronics industry in Austin, Tx. He was a Shriner for many years and last affiliation was the Ben Hur Temple, Austin, Tx. He spent his late years reading and living in the Texas Hill Country.

He is survived by his four children, Jolinda Rockett of Maine, Lois Gay Rockett of Houston, Tx, Jimmy Mack Rockett of Leander, Tx, and Angie Rockett of Connecticut. His legacy lives on in five grandchildren, Jeannie Elise Klepper of Austin, Tx, Travis Nathan Klepper of Houston, Tx, Jimmy Clay Rockett of Austin, Tx, Keli Elizabeth Rockett of Austin, Tx, and China Blue Rockett Of Boston, Ma. His great-grandchildren are Jaryn Ellis Newman, Braley Elise Foster, Landon Gage Klepper, and Sarah Elizabeth Rockett.

Military Honors Service will be at 3:00 pm on May 24, 2018 at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, Tx 75211.
