Gordon Barnes had been forecasting weather for over 40 years and brought a wealth of experience to the NEWSCHANNEL 15 Weather Team. A native of Bermuda, he received his weather and flight training with Pan American World Airways. He spent 11 years with the airline before becoming a television/radio meteorologist with CBS in New York and WUSA-TV in Washington, DC. He was the only professional meteorologist to work with Walter Cronkite and was a part of the CBS Apollo Mission Television Team. He also had the distinction of flying in Hurricane Hunter aircraft into Hurricanes Andrew, Iris and Marilyn. He introduced the jet stream to television viewers and the wind chill factor to the entire broadcasting industry. Gordon also appeared before several U.S. Senate committees testifying on the reliability of long-range weather forecasts.
