David Chandler Bend was born in Brownsville, Texas on April 15, 1951. He earned a Bachelor of Music Education Degree in 1975 from the University of Texas. While at college he met Barbara in a Christian choir called Samaritans; in the summer of 1976, they were married. He served as the Associate Pastor of Central Christian Church in Marble Falls, TX from 1981 to 2000. He taught classes at Faith Academy for 17 years and served as the percussion director for the Marble Falls High School band during that time. For decades he was active in Harmony School of Creative Arts and Hill Country Community Theatre, serving as director for several theatrical plays or performing in leading roles.
David was deeply connected to the Marble Falls community for over 42 years. He is remembered fondly for his theatrical and musical abilities, his pastoral ministry to the elderly and others in need, for fun ski trips and youth events, and for the worship he led at churches. He was a talented vocalist and percussionist, playing marimba and singing in multiple cantatas. One of his last memorable performances was singing Handel’s Messiah in Carnegie Hall, New York, NY. His love of music and the arts created an indelible mark on the community for many.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years Barbara Allen Bend; son Aaron (Cristy) Bend of San Antonio, TX, and granddaughter Katherine Bend; daughter Hannah (James) Moïse of Boston, MA, and grandson Hugo Moïse; brother James (Francisca) Bend of Kingsland, TX; brother-in-law Donald Allen of Marble Falls, TX; sister-in-law Wanza (Brooks) Grantier of Marshall, MI; sister-in-law Mary Jane (Mark) Phelps of Kingwood, TX; sister-in-law Barbara Bend of Columbus, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews.
