Ruth E. Bader, 86, of Mansfield, died Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Mifflin Care Center. Born July 21, 1924 in Jelloway, Ohio, she was the daughter of Elmer and Josie Banbury Spring. A 1942 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, she retired from Richland County where she worked as a receptionist for the Richland County Regional Planning Commission and was active in the Richland County Democratic Party. A member of First United Methodist Church, Ruth was known as the "Birthday Caller", calling everyone on their birthdays and was involved with the Altar Guild. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Delta Master Chapter for over 60 years and the Artesian Girls Club. An avid Ohio sports fan, she enjoyed following the Browns, Buckeyes and especially the Indians.
She is survived by two sons, Joe Tammy Bader of Mansfield and Tom Sharon Bader of North Augusta, SC; a step daughter, Ladine Cochran of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Tiffany Brandon Stewart, Andrea Keegan Sanders, Matthew Bader, Tony Jen Cooke, Justin Hout, Emily Hout, Amy Hout, Jacob Sherrie Lyons, Michelle Lyons and Jeffrey Nola Cochran; 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Maryalice Grassel of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. Bader; a brother-in-law, Steve Grassel; and a son-in-law, William Cochran.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Kent Joy. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 12 N. Diamond Street, Mansfield, OH 44902.
