Robert was known to many as "Bob", "Hef" or "Heffy". Bob was the son of Clarence "Hap" and Mildred (Matths) Heffelfinger. He was born in Mansfield, Ohio on May 5, 1942. Bob began his love for cars early in life with his '51 Ford that he owned at the age of 16. He was a race car driver from 68-73. A very hard worker, he had many jobs that gained him some great experience and allowed him to make many cherished friends. He was part of the 25 year Club at Gorman Rupp where he was employed in the machine shop and on the receiving dock. He worked at Mid Ohio Race Track as Chief of Security for 27 years. Bob also worked at Lexington Police Department for two years. Bob was selfless, giving, and he always gave so willingly without reservation. He was truly a good man with the biggest heart. He always sent the best cards that often brought you to tears because you know it was from the heart. He loved going to the shooting range and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed attending gun shows on Saturday. He was a member of First English Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing euchre, watching Indy 500, watching wrestling on television, and loved old western movies.
Bob leaves behind his love of over 22 years, Sheila Rhoades; his children, Glenda (Neil) Belcher and Holly Hershberger; his grandchildren, Tyler Allen, and Darynne and Taylor Breighner; his nephew and niece, Don and Liz Bisel and their children, Patrick and Pete; and his ex-wife, Marty Long. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his best bud and dog, Sherman.
Family and friends may visit from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm on Monday, February 8, 2021 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at the funeral home with Pastor Patrick Bailey officiating. Bob will be laid to rest at Mansfield Cemetery.
