Richard L. 'Dick' Baumberger, 82, of Mansfield, died Thursday May 19, 2005 at Winchester Terrace Nursing Home after an extended illness. Born October 17, 1922 in Mansfield, he was the son of David and Florence Boughner Baumberger. He retired in 2003 as the owner of Baumberger Heating and Air Conditioning. Mr. Baumberger was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. He was a member of Amvets Post 26, Liederkrantz, Liederkrantz 200 Club, and Tappan's Quarter Century Club. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and an honorary life member of the Lexington-Shelby Elks.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne L. Leppert Baumberger of Mansfield; two daughters and son-in-law, B. Jayne and Richard L. Conley of Lexington, and Michele L. Killen of Mansfield; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Conley and his wife, Lori Halfacre, Matthew and Dana Conley, Staci McKinney, and Chad Killen; five great grandchildren, Kayleigh Conley, Sydney Conley, Sirena Alexander, Cheyanne McKinney, and Andrew McKinney; one sister, Doris Jean Henke of Mansfield; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Evelyn Baumberger of Mansfield, and Bob and Judy Baumberger of Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Imogene Andrews Baumberger; son, Richard L. 'Dickie' Baumberger, Jr., whom died serving in Vietnam; one great grandson, Ian Conley; five brothers, Paul, Ray, Roy, Charles, and Dale Baumberger; and three sisters, Gloria Yetzer, Gertrude Johnson, and Margurite Hilton.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday May 22, 2005 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Pastor Bonnie J. Peltomaa officiating. Military graveside services will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to MedCentral Hospice or St. Timothy Lutheran Church.
