Michael John Karst Sr., 69, of Mansfield, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. He was born in Mansfield on December 18, 1952 to the late Michael and Susanna (Gottschling) Karst.
Michael was a U.S. Army veteran proudly serving from 1972-1974. He later retired from Gorman Rupp. Michael actively served in his church as a deacon, trustee and worship leader at Diamond Hills Baptist Church. He sang in the church choir and in a gospel quartet “Uniquely His”, where they did special singing at nursing homes. He previously had sang with the Glory Road Singers from 1984-1988.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Michael cherished time spent with family. He enjoyed fishing, caring for his roses and online computer gaming. Michael was an accomplished bowler and was previously a coach for the local youth league.
Michael is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dorothy “Dottie” Karst; son, Michael (Jen) Karst Jr.; grandchildren, Desirae Branam and Caleb Branam; sister-in-law, Donna Potts; father-in-law, Bill Potts; one uncle, and several aunts and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Betty Potts; and grandparents, Martin and Susanna Gottschling.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Diamond Hills Baptist Church, 647 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, Ohio 44907. A service will follow beginning at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Chris Thomas officiating. He will be laid to rest in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Diamond Hills Baptist Church Memorial Fund. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to serve the family.
