Martha K. Zimmerman, 82, went to be with the Lord Wednesday evening, August 17, 2011 at Hospice House in Ashland. Born August 25, 1928, in Mansfield, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Haring) Kinkel. Although loving the Lord and caring for her family were her main priorities, Martha also worked with her husband, Benjamin Zimmerman in Zimmerman Construction for many years, then alongside him when he opened Zimmerman’s Family Sales. She also worked at Kinkel’s Meats in the 3rd Street Market, which was owned by her parents. She was a past member of the Mansfield Home Builder’s Association, Women’s Auxiliary. Martha was a wonderful cook and founding member of Ontario Christian Fellowship, where you could always hear her beautiful voice in the choir.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Larry (Suzanne) Zimmerman of Mansfield; daughters, Marylou (Bob) Schmidt of Columbus, and Debby Zimmerman of Tiffin; grandchildren, Dr. Brian (Heidi) Zimmerman, Holly (Anthony) Simpson, Jennifer (Mike) Garter, Sarah (Steve) Meyer, Maggie Schmidt-Lay, Bob (Michelle) Schmidt, Jr., Katie Moore, Angie (Tony) Blank, Dr. Brad (Megan) Moore, Jr., and Hannah Treft; great-grandchildren, Samuel, Benjamin and Shelby Zimmerman, Haley, Emma and Jake Simpson, Anderson and Miles Benjamin Meyer, Spencer and Cameron Lay, Joshua Moore-Snyder, Anthony Jr. and Alexander Blank, and Eleanor Moore; brothers, William and Allen Kinkel; and many nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Benjamin Zimmerman on April 11, 2009; brothers, John and Edward Kinkel; and sister, Ida Popp.
Friends may visit from 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2011 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. Additional visitation will be held Saturday at Ontario Christian Fellowship Church, 636 S. Lexington-Springmill Road from 9-11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial in Mansfield Cemetery will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ontario Christian Fellowship Church, Hospice of North Central Ohio or the National Down Syndrome Society.
