Emma Jean Spears, 78, of Mansfield passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. Emma was born on July 16, 1939 in Lima, Ohio. She was the daughter of Richard and Faye (Lancaster) Thompson.
Emma was a loving mother and grandmother. She was previously employed at Richland New Hope, Red Lobster and Meijer. Emma was always friendly and never met a stranger. She had a great love for shopping, especially for jewelry. She loved watching westerns, anything with Chuck Norris and had a large collection of stuffed animals.
She is survived by her son, Frank Lee Spears of Kansas; three grandchildren; sisters, Neomi (Raymond) Sroufe, Evelyn (Paul) Keasler, Connie (Richard) Workman, and Faye (Rick) Cooper; brother-in-law and caregiver, Billy Harrill; special nephew, Earn Earl Dyer; special great niece, Misty (Michael) Bryan; special great nephew, Justin (Rachel) Dyer; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leroy Spears; sisters, Viola Goodwin, Alberta Allen, and Violet Gipson; brothers, Richard Thompson Jr., and Robert "Bubby" Thompson; in-laws, Frank and Dorcie Hoskinson; and sister-in-law and caregiver, Shirlene Lowe Harrill.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 pm at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Road. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with an additional hour of visitation from 1:00-2:00 pm. Emma's great nephew, Justin Dyer, will officiate the service. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Mansfield Memorial Park.
