Doris Jean Manning Carr, 76, of Ontario went to be with her cherished Lord on Wednesday evening, December 12, 2012. She died at the Cleveland Clinic after nine courageous months of battling pancreatitis. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her death.
She was born March 6, 1936 just outside of Olive Hill, Kentucky to Gerald T. and Martha Stanley Manning. Doris was the oldest of five girls, her sisters survive her ~ Loretta (Harold) Caudill, JoAnn Smith, Donna (Von) Manning and Gay (Don) Wharton. These sisters are the closest sisters I have ever seen and will miss their big sister terribly.
On December 19, 1953 Doris married the love of her life David V. Carr, Sr. who survives her. She quickly set out to be a world traveler with her husband as he was a career Air Force man. Everywhere she went she quickly made friends and fit right in to the community and always made sure to find a good church right away. During the years they had four children who survive her ~ Deena (Harvey) Maness, David (Cinde) Carr, Doug (Dusty) Carr and Derek Carr. Her family was her whole life and she dedicated her life to them. No one was a better wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend than Doris. She never met a stranger and when you did meet her you fell in love with this kind, gentle and caring lady. Our hearts are heavy and broken at having to say goodbye but we know Mom has reached the goal she had for herself her whole life to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Doris was a homemaker while her children were small but eventually she went to work outside the home. At their last Air Base in Great Falls, Montana she became the assistant supervisor at the base day care. After David’s retirement after more than 20 years of service the family moved to Ontario. Quickly and with her natural friendship abilities they became a part of the Ontario community. Doris joined the Ontario Free Methodist Church and became a huge part of the congregation. Her church family also survives her.
She was a manager at Hot Sam Pretzel shop in Richland Mall for 15 years and became known as the pretzel lady. After she left Hot Sam she stayed home to watch her grandchildren and many neighborhood children as well. Her last job was taking care of shut-in and bed ridden elderly patients. She was sought out in this area as she was full of compassion and genuine caring.
Doris not only had four devoted children but many grandchildren whose hearts are breaking at losing this dear lady. Her grandchildren are: Chad (Michelle) Carr, Adam (Lauren) Carr, Mary Elizabeth (Scott) Plogsted, Alissa (Jerry) Green, Amanda Polles, Justin (Myca) Taylor, Leah Taylor, Harvey Maness, Dalton Carr, Aubrye Carr, Dillon Carr and Coco Carr. She also had two great grandchildren: Layla Elin Taylor and Owen Fike and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her third great grandchild to be born in March, a little girl Charlize Noelle Plogsted. She is also survived by two aunts: Dixie Manning and Evelyn Cox and many nieces and nephews.
This lady was truly the meaning of what being a good Christian is and never wavered in her faith through the years. To say that she will be missed is an understatement, the hole in our hearts can never be filled. Rest in peace beautiful lady. You were an Angel on this earth. Now you are our guardian angel in Heaven.
